"The setting doesn't
just exist for my character to do stuff. I get the feeling like things
were going on before I got there, and will continue to go on after I
leave. The setting has a life of its own ."

Submissions
There are currently 3 openings for my Windstorm, Curse of Venturi campaign. It has been going on an off for approximately 10 years and has a complete player section on my website with background information, maps, etc.
WindStorm is a game for human and half-human characters only. Due to
factors in the world Demi-humans
are looked down upon by all the human races. They are seen as being arrogant and the
cause for many of the problems that plague The Long Reach, which is the
area where the players will be operating.
PC submissions must use a portion of the
world history in their backgrounds with those more
closely integrated into the game world given preference. Submissions
will undergo a three step process.
-
Initial submission of your
character concept that includes a rudimentary background. Since you
may not have access to the main site during this stage be as general
as possible.
-
Once your initial concept
is approved you will then develop your background more thoroughly
using the resources within the main site. Only your characters
background should be submitted at this stage and it should be world
specific.
-
The last stage will be you
character sheet, submitted in core rules format or as a word or HTML
document. In general once you have gotten to this stage your character
will have been approved.
If you have any
questions about anything you cannot find on this site e-mail
me and I will try to answer them.
Character submissions should be 1st level. I will award bonus experience levels, magic
items, and equipment to those with especially good backgrounds
that are tightly integrated into my world.
Your PC can enter the game as
high as 5th level depending on the quality of your submission and
integration into the campaign world. Players will start with nothing
except what they have been awarded from the background review.
I am looking for good
writers who are prepared to write in 3rd person past tense posting at
least twice per week, not including responses to other players. You
should be fluent in English and be able to communicate effectively. Effective players
will not be afraid to embellish the environment when they
post. For instance if your PC is in a
forest you can describe the tree the PC sits next to, or you can add
dialog from an NPC you create on the fly to role-play a shopping trip as
long as you are not taking control of an existing NPC already introduced
into the game.
Combat will exist as a means
of injecting suspense into the game, but it is not the main thrust.
Experience will be
awarded for participation, content, role-playing, and if the
post draws others into the game by generating interaction between the
players, as well as for combat and puzzle solving awards. Bonus
experience will be given to those that embrace the game world and the
terms used in it. For instance orcs do not exist on Stormwind, they are
called ogres instead.
Currently the game is being played using a list server from this site.
Private posts will use standard e-mail and the DM should be included in
all of these. A summary will be available on the main player site, and the
DM will update that information periodically. DM posts will go out at
least twice per week to the main group and promptly for OOC questions and world background information
requests unless I am waiting on player action.
Also, this game does not have a fixed plot for the characters. Stormwind
is a world in motion and things are happening everywhere and will continue
to do so even if the players decide to move on. If the
players as a group decide to pursue a course of action outside of the
offered adventures, that will be allowed. Individuals setting out on their
own will also be allowed but keep in mind that posts may be slower as game
time will pass between the two groups at an equal rate.
